MS why are muscles getting weak?

In multiple sclerosis (MS), the immune system attacks the protective myelin sheath that surrounds nerve fibers in the central nervous system. This leads to the disruption of nerve impulses, causing a range of symptoms including muscle weakness.

Muscle weakness in MS is thought to be caused by a combination of factors, including damage to the nerve fibers that control muscle movement, reduced activation of muscles due to changes in the way the nervous system functions, and disuse or deconditioning of muscles due to reduced physical activity.

In addition to muscle weakness, other common symptoms of MS include spasticity (muscle stiffness and involuntary muscle contractions), ataxia (problems with balance and coordination), and fatigue, which can further contribute to muscle weakness.

Management of muscle weakness in MS typically involves a combination of medication, physical therapy, and exercise to help maintain strength and function.
